Wanda J. Smith came to Head Start over 28 years ago with a strong commitment to the welfare of young children. Her strong leadership and passion for her work has earned her the current title of CEO, where she is responsible for more than 4,000 Head Start children, 700+ employees and an annual operating budget of over $32.5 million. See http://www.hsgd.org/ceo.htm for more. Ms. Smith works with the HEAD START of Greater Dallas, Inc. Board of Directors and staff members. She led the effort to develop a shared vision for the future of the agency and ensures that it is implemented and updated. She also ensures that the objectives of the agency’s Long-Range Plan are accomplished or addressed and that all content areas are operating at a high level of quality. As the agency’s leader, Ms. Smith continually promotes the mission and vision of Head Start to staff, parents, the Board and local community. She maintains a strong and productive working relationship with the Board. Together with the Board, the CEO establishes and maintains positive relationships with many groups that support the work of the agency. Ms. Smith’s leadership team members who report directly to her include Head Start Director Kenneth R. Gilbert and External Affairs Director Rob Massonneau. The Quality Assurance Resource Associates, Staff Development/Career Resource Associates and Executive Assistant also report directly to Ms. Smith.
